hey guys,

So I looked in my tank this evening to the most disturbing think I have ever seen...Pumpkin my bp lying belly up, bloated, [pine-coned, eyes popped out and labored breathing, at the bottom of the tank...I freaked out and scrambled to find my anti-bacterial meds...it's been so long that I have ANY kind of need for meds in the tank, that the products I did have were old and almost empty. I think I had grabbed an AP product and starting pouring it in and then realized that I completely missed that I had a mardel product which I would have prefered to use.
I don't think I have ever had a fish with dropsy before, I am so freaking devastated because all the websites I have been looking at say that once a fish has gotten to the bloated, pine-cone stage it'a already too late, they'll die. Surely this can't be the case. I was reading that salt baths can help. I would have to get another tank as I don't have any spare tanks anymore. But I read on one web page that you would add 1 teaspoon to every 1 gallon of water. Does that sounds about right? I am considering running out tonight and getting a starter 10gal aquarium set so I can put her in it and treat with salt...

Opinions please!! Please tell me that it's not a lost cause with my pumpkin I will be crushed if there isn't anything I can do for her...

Sorry, Gringa sad.gif

I don't have experience with fish diseases, etc.

Hopefully, someone else will be along shortly to give you some advice.

All best, Joe

ok dropsy, You can add salt but you need to make sure of what other fish you have in the tank. There are medicines against dropsy that you add to the water of your tank but those are not very effective and it is, as this is an internal disease, better to give the fish medicated food. Sorry

I have never saved a fish in the advanced stages of the disease before and now don't even bother trying.I just use what ever means of euthenasia is appropriate for the size of fish and put it out of it's misery.Sorry it does not help you situation but I think that it's to late now for your fish.
