Probably not the best idea I'll have but what about rope lights? Are there aquatic ones? I'd always imagined them to be cheap to light and they come in a plethora of colours.

No idea how that would work to be honest. I might look into it though thumbsup.gif

I saw these but they are quite spaced out but I guess you could snake them up and down regularly. smile.gif

Rick,

How is your pond doing? Did it make it out of the winter OK? Any problems or leaks?

Are all your fish OK, etc. ?

This year we had one of the mildest winters I can ever remember . . . thumbsup.gif

All best,
Joe

Crikey, didn't realise an update was this overdue.

I've had a few ups and downs with the pond. Not least getting a bad outbreak of various parasites and flukes. Lost quite a few fish but things seem to be under control at the moment.

Over winter went relatively smoothly, mainly as I chose to heat the pond and keep it at a minimum of 10 degrees over the worst part of winter, and 15 degrees the rest of the time. This meant I could keep feeding the fish the whole time.

Added a sand filter and pump, along with a surface skimmer to the equipment list, and have a 55 watt UV to plumb in along side the 35 watt UV already running. I'll do some updated pics of the pond, fish and equipment over the weekend. Only this one available at the moment (and typically, I hadn't cleaned the window shout.gif ).

Thanks, Rick!

With a system as large as that, there were bound to be a few ups and downs along the way!

Long overdue follow up shout.gif

Over winter went fine, no problems with the window. First winter I kept the temp up at 14 degrees, and fed the fish through the winter. After swallowing the cost of that, the second winter the heater was set to 2 degrees just to keep the ice off. Fish weren't fed over winter.

Had a few issues with losses, quite a few losses in fact, in two prolonged periods. No idea what triggered them, and what stopped them. Brought me close to shutting the whole thing down and calling it a day. Fingers crossed, everything has settled back down again.

I have changed filter setups. Still running the vortex and multibay, but had started to use a sand filter to polish the water. That turned out to be a real pain to keep clean, needing a couple of hundred gallons of water every few days thumbdown.gif So I ditched that, and switched to waterco multi-cyclone. WOW, what a difference, takes about 10 litres of water to clean, and the water is crystal clear. I'm now planning to convert the sand filter to a bead filter, with a multi-cyclone (already have the second one ready) as a pre-filter. I can then hopefully dispense with the multi bay and actually get the whole filter system down to really low maintenance thumbup.gif

I'll try and do some new photos at some point over the weekend to upload.

let me retract that last statement I made, not a swimming hole, but we could make it a Huck Finn fishing hole for NOAH.......lol.....

(reason for NOAH in caps. is because I am hearing Bill Cosby doing his skit of the Lord talking down to Noah about building the ark.)

(well ok goggle it and listen to it.....NOAH)
